In November 2005, BP launched its U.S. Internet presence as part of the company’s global website to highlight the company's extensive business presence across the United States. The U.S. edition of bp.com provides detailed information about the company’s presence from Alaska to Texas, and from California to New York, providing facts, figures, pictures and detailed descriptions BP in the U.S.
The project took six months to design, research, write and fact-check more than 200 pages about BP’s operations in the United States. When launched, it was the largest single country presence on the bp.com website, reflecting the company’s assets and business activities throughout the country.
Joe Massucci, the website's project manager, explains: “The previous information about BP in the United States on our global website did not reflect that fact that 40 percent of BP assets are here. We built the site from the ground up – involving a lot of people in the process. A team of writers has carried out extensive research to explain what BP does here and how and where we do it.”
Information on company locations, projects, products and services demonstrate the importance of the United States to BP. For example, each deepwater Gulf of Mexico asset is described, mapped and accompanied by striking visuals and in some instances video footage.
